What is Costume Jewelry? What is Costume Jewelry made of? When and where did it originate?

Costume jewelry, also known as fashion jewelry is made from inexpensive, non-precious materials like plastic, glass, and base metals such as brass or copper. Costume jewelry is decorative jewelry that is made to complement an outfit and offers a wide variety of styles from simple to extravagant. It's always been popular as it allows for a more affordable way to follow fashion trends. Costume jewelry has originated

As per Google, Costume jewelry started in the 18th century, with French jeweler Georges Fréderic Strass creating imitation gems from leaded glass in 1724. While its origins go back further, it didn't become a major fashion trend until the 1920s when designers like Coco Chanel made it a high-fashion staple, democratizing the concept beyond mere imitation of fine jewelry.
Best Ways to Clean Costume Jewelry

The great thing about costume jewelry is that it's easy to care for with keeping it clean.

One way is to wash the costume jewelry with some warm water, dish soap and a soft cloth or even using your fingers. Gently apply a small amount of soap onto the piece of jewelry and add some warm water onto the cloth or when using your fingers, apply some water on top of the soap/jewelry without washing away all the soap. Lather the soap on the jewelry until it cleans off all the dirt and then rinse with water thoroughly until all soap is washed away. Set aside on a dry dish cloth or paper towel and allow the costume jewelry to air dry.

An alternative way to clean costume jewelry and for items that have harder places to clean, you may use an aluminum foil dish, place the jewelry into the dish. With a mixture of a bit of salt, baking soda and warm water, mix these ingredients together and then pour it on top of the jewelry. Let the jewelry sit in the mixture for a few minutes and you will notice with the aluminum foil and the mixture it will create a bubble reaction which will start cleaning the jewelry. You may monitor the jewelry and take it out once you are satisfied with the cleaning. Once cleaned, rinse the jewelry off with warm water and set aside on a dry cloth or paper tower for it to air dry.
